Tasmania: Speculations on Tectonics with Ron Berry

February 29th:  6:00 PM, School of Earth Sciences Lecture Theatre, University of Tasmania.

The GSA Tasmania Division is leaping into 2024 with a talk on Tasmanian Tectonics by Ron Berry.

Ron is a Twelvetrees Medal recipient (2016) for his outstanding contributions to our understanding of the structure and tectonics of Tasmania. His work in the 1970s onwards reimagined Tasmania’s geological evolution and where and how it fits with the rest of Australia.  His work has been seminal to reconstructions of supercontinents in the Mesoproterozoic and Paleozoic. In his talk ‘Tasmania: Speculations on Tectonics’ he will discuss the current models for the formation of Tasmania, both west and east, along with some background on how the models developed.
